Just right, especially with a puppy.

I really like this leash, it works well with my new puppy. What I find useful, besides not being jerked around when he gets excited, is the hands free option. The quality is exactly what you would expect from Ruffwear, made to last. I definitely recommend this leash.

Near Perfect ‘All in One’ Handsfree Leash

The Roamer Lock leash is my new ‘go to’ for long hikes and trail running. The locking mechanism is intuitive and smaller than the non-locking version - much appreciated. The buckle clip is high quality ‘plastic’ that is proven and durable - I’d take this buckle anytime on a cold winter day versus a metal version, would appreciate a locking buckle version though as future upgrade (as well as field orange colour option please).

I’m 215 lbs and have a strong 50 lb terrier, and it’s the perfect width for looping around my waist and sitting securely on my hip bone - no stress on lower back and beats having a separate waist belt hitch. We will see how durable the elasticity of the leash is after miles of hikes - but so far this is a truly beautiful design, including the ‘traffic’ loop at top of leash, perfect for securing dog when bikes or other people are passing on a tight trail.

Well done - a much loved addition to hiking adventures with my dog . Thank you

    Love this leash!

This is my favorite leash! I love the bungee section as it gives my dog some extra room to stretch without hurting my arm with a quick move on his part. Also love the quick attachment piece so I can quickly tether him to a solid object. My pup likes to bite leashes when he is excited and has easily snipped at least 6 leashes in half but has not been able to do so with this leash. We both love this leash- it is our favorite!

Not quite sure this was right for me

Ordered one on another site and got the lock by mistake instead of metal classic. The key features the lock mechanism is definitely more secure than the old metal design, however I found I had trouble disengaging the lock when taking it off the dog. It did prompt me to ask the question "why do I need a second locking mechanism on a leash that is attached to the back of my dog's harness?" It is not like the dog is going to be able flick the lever and squeeze the release. I've owned the classic metal version for over 5 years and never had a dog slip the double claw lock on the loop. I am more likely to see the dogs get off poorly secured harnesses. My other reservation on the new mechanism is how well it will take getting dirt/sand/mud and ice in the mechanism. There have been a couple times I have had to use pliers to break loose the classic after a busy day at the beach. Time will tell on the new mechanism. I am sure the folks at Ruffwear have tested these things. I do hope that Ruffwear continues to make the classic version as I find it plenty acceptable to manage 3 dogs.

    Awkward feel

Not sure what it is . I have a couple Ruffwear harnesses and leashes. This one confused me on how it works to be honest.
